How it works

How Holler works

One move turns the phone in your hand into a deterrent, a record and a way to bring someone you trust with you. Here is exactly what happens, and the ways you can set it off.

One move. Three things at once.

  1. 01

    Trigger it

Shake it, press the button, use the Lock Screen widget or the Action Button. However you reach for it, it fires.

  2. 02

    It screams, flashes, records

A max-volume siren and full-screen strobe go off, even on silent, and it starts recording the scene.

  3. 03

    Your person is alerted

One contact you chose gets your live location, even on Android. And a Call 112 / 999 / 911 button is one tap away.

Ways to trigger it

However you reach for it, it fires. The reliable triggers come first, with shake as an option for when your hands are full.

  • On-screen button

A big, unmissable button when the app is open. No menus, no hunting.

  • Lock Screen widget

Trigger straight from the Lock Screen without unlocking your phone.

  • Action Button

On iPhone 15 Pro and later, set the Action Button to fire Holler instantly.

  • Shake

Shake to trigger while the app is open, or arm a walk-home session for shake on lock.

A response that matches the moment

Not every situation is an emergency. Holler gives you a ladder, so you can pick the level the moment calls for.

  1. Fake call

A realistic incoming-call screen gives you a low-stakes reason to step away from a situation, with no alarm at all.

  2. Siren

A max-volume siren and full-screen strobe, even on silent, to deter a threat, and recording starts as evidence.

  3. Full alert

Everything in the siren, plus your trusted contact gets your live location and a one-tap way to help. A button to call your local emergency number is always there.

Honest answers

Does Holler call the police for me?

No, and no app can. Phones do not let any app silently dial the emergency services. Holler alerts a trusted contact you choose and gives you a one-tap button to call your local emergency number yourself (112 in Europe, 999 in the UK, 911 in the US). Holler is not a substitute for emergency services.

Does the alarm work on silent?

Yes. The siren plays over the mute switch and the strobe lights the screen, so the deterrent works even with your phone silenced.

Is the alarm really free?

Yes, forever. The siren, strobe, recording and trusted-contact alert are free. An optional Pro plan adds things like unlimited contacts, but you never need it to raise the alarm.

Does my contact need an iPhone?

No. Your trusted contact gets your alert and live location whether they are on iPhone or Android.

Holler is not a substitute for emergency services

If you are in immediate danger, call your local emergency number directly: 112 across Europe, 999 in the UK, 911 in the US. Holler alerts a contact you choose and helps you raise the alarm, but it does not call the emergency services for you, and it may not work in all circumstances.
